Description:

This well-known and highly respected publisher based in Oxford has a vacancy for a Manufacturing Controller to work on the Humanities and Social Science journals list. The position involves liaising with printers to ensure that schedules are met, quality is assured and service is provided. It also includes organising the despatch of the journals, co-ordinating the approval of issues and providing status reports to the Manufacturing Manager.

 

Responsibilities include:

•          Chasing and liaising with suppliers (typesetters, printers, paper merchants and despatch agents) on a daily basis

•          Chasing colleagues and suppliers to ensure journals are published on time and to budget

•          Updating the Central Article Tracking System (CATS) to monitor production schedules and provide production status reports to the Manufacturing Manager

•          Co-ordinating approval of bound copies with Production staff/suppliers and the release of journal labels – daily

•          Ensuring all supplier/manufacturing information is kept updated

•          Involvement in setting and implementation of the journals manufacturing strategy

•          Liaison with marketing, editorial and in-house Production Editors to ensure all production issues are addressed

•          Maintaining the cover file archive both print and online

•          Assisting with the manufacturing Distributed Print on Demand workflow

•          Implementing the litho to digital transfer procedure

•          Monitoring low stock reports in conjunction with customer services and editorial and actioning reprints after consultation with Manufacturing Manager

•          Producing quotes and estimates for reprints

•          Organising the production and despatch of Editors bound volumes and individual leather-bound issues

•          Providing Manufacturing Manager with supplier performance reviews

 

The successful candidate will ideally have experience of working with academic journal production, have a keen eye for detail, happy to work to tight deadlines and possess excellent communication and organisational skills.
