Pan Macmillan is looking for an Editorial Manager to help run its fiction publishing programme. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Fiction editorial team and the position requires proven organisational and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will also have at least two years' experience working on a full range of fiction trade formats. Core responsibilities are:

• Commissioning, briefing, coordinating freelance copy-editors, proofreaders, indexers and others as necessary
• Managing schedules and predicting potential workload clashes/ build-up; making sure editors and authors are realistic about deadlines and objectives; realising these deadlines optimally
• Liaising with the Fiction team to plan and manage the forward programme, ensuring it is balanced and realistic; communicating regularly with the Fiction Production Controller so that they are aware of changes to the schedule as titles progress
• Communicating with the authors and guiding them through the editorial processes; keeping them up-to-date with the schedule
• Collating typescripts and proofs; dealing with queries and resolving problems; ensuring all elements of the book are accounted for
• Chasing editors for outstanding material; updating them on progress
• Selecting and copy-editing specific titles within the fiction programme
• Checking offset material and copy-editing new material
• Coordinating materials for book proofs, in conjunction with the Marketing department and editors, and ensuring their timely delivery
• Copy-checking covers, jackets etc to ensure consistency in the fiction list - the Editorial Manager is the first and last contact for all text prior to proofing/leaving the building
• Care of backlist, e.g. processing reprints and any corrections
• Maintaining internal databases

The post is based in Pan Macmillan's North London offices.
