Our client is a well-known professional body for those involved in the management and development of people. With custom-designed and conveniently located offices in South London , they offer a working environment and company benefits that are second to none. Their in-house publishing team is highly successful and has experienced strong growth over the last few years, and it is this team that is seeking a talented and enthusiastic candidate to join them for 11 months as the Commissioning Manager.

In this role, you will assume overall strategic responsibility of the publishing programme through developing and implementing a growth and profit-focused editorial strategy. Line managing a team of three commissioning editors, you will ensure that the commissioning signing targets are met and will take responsibility for the financial monitoring and management of the programme, making recommendations and taking contingency action where appropriate. You will manage and develop your commissioning team to identify, then research and pursue market opportunities and will also oversee the housekeeping of the backlist ensuring that new editions are produced in a timely manner.

The successful candidate will be of graduate calibre, with sound experience of working at commissioning editor level on a textbook list aimed at higher/further education qualifications or a professional publishing programme. You will demonstrate a detailed knowledge of editorial and a general knowledge of production processes. Good financial management skills are crucial as are good strategic planning/business planning abilities. Experience of list-building and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also essential.
