The job: A leading publisher of children’s educational reference and activity books with a strong reputation within the schools and libraries market are looking for a UK & International Sales Director / Sales Manager for a 10 month period of maternity cover commencing beginning of September (may be possible to extend period depending on the returning job-holder). The person appointed will be responsible for Key Accounts for the UK trade and School and Library markets, UK Special Sales, managing Key Distributor Accounts in the Far East and South Africa and management of relationships with North American library distributors. Responsibilities also include developing new business in the UK, planning and implementation of the UK publishing schedule, Marketing and Publicity, management of stock control, attendance at trade and industry exhibitions and working directly with the Publisher and Creative Director to determine future publishing. The Sales Director is also responsible for management of a sales team including an English Language Sales Executive, Export sales Manager and freelance trade reps for the UK and the freelance export reps. 

The person:  The successful candidate will need to demonstrate personal drive, entrepreneurial skills and have excellent sales leadership qualities; plus enjoying an exceptional track record in sales management. You will also need to be creative, have proven negotiating skills and natural people influencing skills and have developed strong commercial business acumen in tough and changing markets. Relevant experience of children’s educational / illustrated non-fiction within UK trade, School and Library markets is desirable. The role will suit a talented individual with exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, an innovative and creative approach to sales management and a motivating style that would inspire an experienced team of sales professionals.

Salary: In the region of £30k – £38k depending on experience.
