The job: A well respected medium sized publishing company with a strong reputation for original, critically acclaimed and topical non-fiction and high quality illustrated books is seeking to appoint a Senior Commissioning Editor. The primary responsibilities will be to manage and develop the company core lists including film, TV, music, sport, military history and fashion. Reporting to the Publisher the successful candidate will also specifically be required to generate fresh ideas and projects by liaising with non-traditional sources such as sports agencies and direct contact with people involved in the entertainments industry i.e. creating new publishing opportunities by sourcing and commissioning new authors and titles. Financial management and budget control are the other responsibility of this challenging and interesting role. 

The person:  The successful candidate will have a sound editorial background ideally including commissioning both illustrated and text only titles. Strong market knowledge and well informed interest in the relevant subject areas, in particular sport, are essential and should be supported by a good list of author, agent and key player contacts across the subject areas. Proven ability to nurture talent and build and manage strong, effective relationships with contributors is essential and should be accompanied by a good understanding of production processes, strong design sense, creativity and excellent project management skills. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, well organised and a proven, confident communicator with effective strategic planning abilities, astute commercial awareness and sound financial management ability.
