The job:  One of the UK’s leading publishers of highly illustrated non-fiction books, including reference, language education, maps, atlases and guidebooks, is seeking to appoint a creative and inspiring Art Director. Reporting to the Managing Director, the Art Director will lead an in-house creative team responsible for the cover work, book design and all other creative / digital output. They will be responsible for projects through every stage, from concept generation to completion, managing workload and workflow for the team to ensure projects are executed on time, to budget and to high quality standards. Creative aspects of the role include receiving briefs and generating creative cover concepts, personally designing covers, marketing material and other creative projects.  Management of freelance suppliers is also an important part of this role.

The person: Candidates will need to be educated to a high standard in graphic design, art, illustration, typography or advertising, ideally to post-graduate level. They will need a proven track record as a Senior Designer or Art Director with experience of delivering projects from concept to completion, leading teams of designers and planning work flow and work load management for self and team. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding creative and design ability along with high level skills in all standard design packages. Candidates should have good knowledge of the book market and competition. Experience of working with brands and design in digital environments would be an advantage.  Ideal candidates will have excellent leadership and communication skills, strong commercial awareness and demonstrable ability to inspire and influence others.
