The job:  A leading publisher of a wide range of innovative, interactive books and kits for children of all ages is looking to recruit an experienced Editorial Manager / Editor for a one year contract from mid October to cover the maternity leave of the current job-holder. Reporting to the publisher, the job entails overseeing the list, maintaining quality, schedules and budgets, and includes commissioning as well as hands-on, day to day editorial tasks. Also included is customer liaison with US publishers on co-editions, and controlling reprints and foreign language editions. The successful candidate will manage the in-house editor and various freelancers, and be a key member of a small and dedicated team.

The person:  Candidates will need considerable integrated illustrated book design experience, preferably, but not exclusively, on children’s illustrated titles. Books plus experience is not essential. They need to be competent users of InDesign, Quark 4.1, Excel, and Word. They will have excellent organisational, communication and team management skills, and the ability to deal with freelancers. Possessing meticulous attention to detail, the successful candidate will also have strong creative vision, a good sense of humour, and the ability to work under pressure.

Salary: Competitive pro rata rate depending on experience.
