The job: Our client, a major international publisher, is looking for and experienced Head of Royalties and Rights to take responsibility for a large busy department. Reporting to the Finance Director, this is a high profile senior accounting role with wide contacts including finance teams, legal and contracts departments; cash management; authors; agents; other publishers and rights licensees. The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for Royalty and Rights function with oversight of the end to end royalties and rights transaction process. Key accountabilities will be to take overall responsibility for providing accurate reporting and forecasting; the proactive management of royalty and rights related issues and leading a large team who are responsible for timely and correct payment of authors and maintaining all associated auditable accounting records.

The person:  Candidates will need to be commercially aware with considerable industry experience, ideally 3 years of leading a team of 10 or more and 5 years at management level, ideally in accounting or high volume transaction environments. A recognised accountancy qualification would be extremely advantageous. Ability to work closely with authors and agents and publishing, legal and subsidiary rights departments will be key. The skills to lead and manage change and implement new processes and systems to adapt royalties and rights processes to respond to new digital revenue streams are also essential. Familiarity with IT systems employed in publishing companies rights and royalties would also be advantageous. Essentially the role requires a driven individual who can introduce best of class processes, focus in influential internal control and manage an efficient and effective team in a strongly customer focussed environment.
