An opportunity to work within a busy Print and Publishing team at the heart of Government has arisen.  The Department for Transport is looking for a talented individual to join its Communication Directorate as Publishing Production Officer.

The post holder as part of a team of nine will be responsible for procuring and managing the Department's publishing and production services, delivering a range of hard copy priced, unpriced and house publications. You will be proactive and embrace initiatives such as Best Value Publishing, to drive forward process changes to develop business efficiencies that will encourage improved savings generated through smarter procurement and contracts.

The Print Publishing and Distribution Team sit within the Communication Directorate. Our aim is to provide a professional and cost effective publishing, print buying and distribution management service to the Department for a broad range of print products covering our high profile Road Safety and Act on CO2 campaigns, priced and free publications including Consultation Documents, White Papers, policy documents and corporate print. We lead on Government wide contracts for print, paper and typesetting and work with colleagues across government.
 
You will:
• manage internal clients' publishing programmes, including annual reports, research results and guidance to industry.
• be able to demonstrate your ability to take a brief and add value to it through your publishing experience and commercial nous.
• have experience managing publishing projects from initial advice to officials, through supplier liaison and management to the delivery of bound and finished copies.
• be as comfortable dealing with standard Parliamentary documents as you are briefing designers for innovating to meet new challenges

The role will challenge your expertise in developing specifications and briefs both for print production and the procurement of technical and creative services. It will bring into play your knowledge and experience of print, its various processes and their fitness for different purposes.
The successful candidate will be able to manage complex work and resources well, prioritising and remaining calm under pressure, and collaborating to deliver best value for all stakeholders.

The position is based in our central London office and in addition to the starting salary there is also an attractive civil service pension scheme, 30 days annual leave (pro rata), one hour lunch breaks and other benefits.
