We have an excellent opportunity at a leading London publisher for a Commissioning Editor, to work on their Science list.

The job holder will commission, develop and manage a range of educational products according to budget. Working closely with and reporting in to the Publishing Manager, key responsibilities will include: identifying market opportunities for new products, developing and maintaining strategic publishing plans for front and backlist to ensure profitability of the lists, commissioning and project-managing printed and digital materials; managing authors and identifying new talent, working closely with the sales and marketing team to ensure that products hit their sales targets, helping set, monitoring and controlling editorial budgets and making frequent visits to schools and colleges and regularly attending conferences to gain market knowledge.

Candidates must be educated to degree level, or equivalent, within Science and should have worked previously as a commissioning editor, ideally within the secondary educational market. The successful candidate will be pro-active, confident with the ability to negotiate and network effectively. You must be an excellent project manager and communicator, competent using basic PC packages, able to enthuse others and enjoy working as part of a team.
