Protestors greet Turin book fair

Protesters in the thousands, including Dario Fo, the 1997 Nobel laureate in literature, massed on Saturday in Turin, Italy, to demonstrate their opposition to that city's book fair, which highlights the 60th anniversary of Israeli independence, reports the New York Times via AFP.

The fair's decision to showcase Israeli writers drew a crowd of "Free Palestine" demonstrators — estimated at 3,000 to 4,000, Agence France-Presse reported. The Paris book fair in March, also with an Israeli theme, drew similar pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
