Sutton expands with two new imprints

NPI Media Group, the local and specialist history publisher headed by Alan Sutton, is expanding further with the launch of two new imprints. Tom Ferris, a former director of aviation and transport publisher, Midland, has been recruited to establish and manage the two new imprints, Great Western Press and Lancaster. GWP will publish books on road and rail transport while Lancaster will focus on civil and military aviation. The two imprints should publish up to 100 titles annually by 2010.
Tony Morris, NPI group publishing director, said: "It's an exciting development for us and will significantly build our strength in this area. Our core readers are knowledgeable enthusiasts so we are delighted to have attracted someone of Tom's experience, expertise and market knowledge to guide this phase of the group's expansion."
The new venture follows the NPI Group's buy back in February of Sutton Publishing and the acquisition of four further publishing companies: Jarrold Publishing, Philimore and Company, Oaklands Book Services and US publisher the History Press. At the time, Sutton said the purchases were part of ambitious plans to become the largest heritage/regional interest publisher in the world.
