Profits outpace sales at Bertelsmann

Random House's parent Bertelsmann saw operating earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) rise by 4.7% to €1,028m, on sales that rose by 1.2% to €13.3bn in the nine-months to 30th September 2007. In the third quarter of 2007, adjusted revenues were at the level of the previous year at €4.3bn. Operating EBIT improved during the third quarter by 11.7% to €314m (previous year: €281 million).

The group did not break out the results by division. According to c.f.o. Thomas Rabe: "Bertelsmann further improved its operating profitability in the first nine months. For the full year, we also expect to exceed the results of fiscal 2006 in terms of revenues and operating results adjusted for portfolio and exchange rate effects."
