Second McCann book in Portugal
03.12.07 Alison Flood
A second book about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann is published in Portugal this week. The title, by Portuguese daily newspaper Correio da Manhã editor-in-chief Manuel Catarino, follows crime reporter Hernani Carvalho's book, Maddy 129, which was published last month.
Publisher Guerra e Paz is presenting the title to international publishers today. It said the book would discuss what has happened to Madeleine and what efforts have been made to find her.
"The characters of the book are real, the related facts are precise, and the descriptions are accurate," the publisher said in a statement. "All the steps of the investigation appear in this essential document that constitutes an invaluable vision about a colossal web of information, manoeuvres, certainties and conjectures that continue to feed the media around the world." The book also includes a not previously published interview with criminal attorney José Manuel Anes.
Guerra e Paz added that the title of the book, A Culpa dos McCann, "is not a finish line but a start point". It said: "This book is basically a journalistic work. It retains information subject to many published and discussed news on the press, radio and television stations. It doesn't point an accusatory finger to the McCann. It helps the reader among the labyrinth of the news about the missing Madeleine."
