HC to offer hymns online
20.12.07 Graeme Neill
HarperCollins is to launch the first online hymn resource next month, featuring 1,800 songs.
The website, www.missionpraise.com, will feature three of HC's bestselling hymn-books; Mission Praise, Junior Praise and Carol Praise. Users will pay a yearly subscription of £40 for the first book and £10 for each additional title. They will be able to print the lyrics from a PDF document, download sheet music and play a simple version of the song on the website.
Users will be able to browse the website by the song number from the hymnbook, composer name or title. They can also put together playlists of a number of songs and allow a group of up to 10 people to have access to them for an additional £20 per year.
The website will go live on 14th January. Ian Metcalfe, editorial director for Bibles, music and liturgical at HarperCollins, said that the website is the first time that a major hymnbook has been provided in digital form. "There are thousands of churches which use this material so it will be useful for them to have it in digital form," he said. "We have tried to make it simple as possible for people to get the song they want easily or to browse and enjoy the full catalogue of hymns."
