Europe push for RHG

The Random House Group is aiming to strengthen its presence in Europe with two new appointments. Nicola Griffiths is joining in the newly created role of European marketing executive, and Pauline Konink has been appointed as area sales manager for the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and France.

Konink will be based in the Netherlands, and will report to group sales and marketing director for Europe Mike Abbott. She joins from Dutch distributor Nilsson & Lamm, where she was the English books buyer.

Griffiths will report to international marketing manager Alison Rhodes, and will provide marketing support for RHG's authors and customers in Europe.

International director Simon Littlewood said: "The group has been incredibly successful in Europe, having had sales growth of 35% over the last five years. These strategic appointments will further strengthen the team and allow us to provide more support for our authors and customers in this important market."

RHG said that its recent European successes include Donna Leon's Suffer The Little Children, Philip Roth's Exit Ghost, Ian McEwan's On Chesil Beach, The Merde series from Stephen Clarke and Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic and Baby. This year it will also publish all of James Patterson's new titles in Europe following a multi-book deal last year.
