Capello biog from Bantam
15.02.08 Joel Rickett
Transworld has signed up the first biography of new England manager Fabio Capello, from world football expert Gabriele Marcotti. Capello will be published by Bantam as an £18.99 royal hardback at the end of August, just before England’s opening qualifying match for the 2010 World Cup.
World and serial rights were acquired by Transworld senior editor Giles Elliott from agent David Luxton. Elliott said that the Italian-born Londoner Marcotti, who commentates for the Times and BBC Radio 5 Live, was the "best-qualified" writer to reveal the life story and tactical approach of this "steely, determined and very private man".
It is not an official biography, but will benefit from Marcotti’s access to Capello’s team. Marcotti interviewed him for The Italian Job (also Bantam), which was co-written with Gianluca Vialli and shortlisted for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year 2006.
Capello, known for his disciplined and defence-focused style, has won domestic league titles with every club he has managed: AC Milan, Real Madrid, Roma and Juventus. "He’s got a astonishing track record," Luxton added. "If he can’t pull it off with England, who can?"
