Amazon launches text buying service
Amazon.com has launched a service to allow customers to buy from the website using text messages.
Amazon TextBuyIt lets customers use text messages to find and buy products sold on Amazon.com. The service joins Amazon's existing mobile offering, which also includes its mobile site and mobile iPhone site.
Customers can send a text message with the name of the product, search term or ISBN code and Amazon replies with the product or products that match the search, along with prices. To buy an item, customers reply to the text message by entering the unique single digit number next to the item they want. Customers will then receive a phone call from Amazon with the final details of their order and asking them to confirm or cancel the purchase.
Howard Gefen, director of Amazon Mobile Payments, said: "With today's launch of TextBuyIt, any Amazon.com customer can now use any mobile device to shop and buy from Amazon.com, at anytime, anywhere they are."
