North leaves Pan Mac

David North is to leave his post as managing director of Pan Macmillan. North, who has been at Pan Macmillan for eight years, intends to leave the company on 11th April. A "transition plan" is being developed to cover his departure.

Annette Thomas, chief executive of Macmillan, praised North’s "energy, his enthusiasm, his passion for publishing and the loyalty and support he has shown his team" saying that the stability now enjoyed by the company was "in great part down to him".

North said it had been "a huge privilege" to lead Pan Macmillan, adding: "I leave the company in great strength coming off the back of a record sales year and a strong first quarter performance. Pan Macmillan is set for an exciting future and I wish them every success."

His departure follows the appointment of Annette Thomas as c.e.o. in October. Thomas, who was formerly Nature Publishing Group m.d., replaced Richard Charkin who left for Bloomsbury. Macmillan Education chairman Christopher Paterson also left the company after 37 years earlier this year.
