Fighting talk from Jessica Kingsley
24.04.08 Jo Young
Professional and academic publisher Jessica Kingsley is launching a new imprint in May called Singing Dragon, which will specialise in Chinese martial arts, religion and philosophy. The company, which has previously published a small number of titles on yoga, spirituality and similar themes, is looking to develop the fledgling genre of martial arts books written by English practitioners of the ancient fighting technique.
"We decided to make a separate imprint because we had been heading firmly in the direction of martial arts and Taoist philosophy for some time. This is a logical step for us, and as there isn’t a good English martial arts list out there, it seemed a great opportunity to fill a hole in the market,” said m.d. Jessica Kingsley.
The first title to be published by Singing Dragon will be Bagua Quan, about the Chinese martial arts technique, which is due for release next month (£14.99, p/b). The company will release a further four titles in June on the practice of Qigong, a type of breathing and movement exercise.
