Borders US: no transaction to date
23.05.08 Anna Richardson
Borders Group in the US is continuing to review its strategic options and has not made any "substantive" discussions on any possible deals to sell the business.
In a statement issued in response to a period of speculation on the book chain's future, Borders said: "The company is in the midst of the strategic alternatives process and has not engaged in substantive discussions regarding any specific transaction to date. The company does not intend to make any further comment while the process is ongoing."
The statement follows previous news that Borders was reviewing its Paperchase business in a process that was expected to result in a sale of the UK-based stationery chain. Earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal reported that rival US book chain Barnes & Noble was considering the possibility of buying Borders.
