Classical Comics scoops award with first book

The British graphic novel Henry V from Classical Comics has been awarded a Silver Medal at the 2008 Independent Publishers Awards in America.

This year’s prize attracted 3,175 entries, and Henry V: Original Text, which was the first title from Classical Comics released in November 2007, won runner-up in the Graphic Novel/Drawn Book category.

Chairman of Classical Comics, Clive Bryant, said that the publisher had increased the number of titles in production due to the positive response. “We are absolutely delighted to win this award with our first book," he added. "To see this dream become a reality, and then to gain recognition for our books has been a truly emotional experience."

Two further adaptations, Frankenstein and Jane Eyre, are due in September this year, with another five titles being released between October 2008 and January 2009.
