Woolworths launches Daily Express promo
27.05.08 Anna Richardson
Woolworths has teamed up with the Daily Express to launch a new weekly promotion, "Woolworths and the Daily Express recommends".
Every Friday, the Daily Express will recommend a new book that will retail in Woolworths for £2.99 (normal retail price £6.99). The newspaper will review the book as part of a half-page feature and Woolworths will stock the book in a specially created display unit front of store.
The promotion launches this Saturday (31st May) with front page coverage in the Daily Express and a free book of Martina Cole's Broken. The first title promoted at £2.99 will be Crossfire by Andy McNab on 6th June.
Matt Bridge, Woolworths’ book buyer, said this was the biggest ongoing promotion the retailer had ever undertaken, in terms of books. “We’re delivering an outstanding price for our customers on what will be really strong chart bestsellers," he added. "It works to team up with the Express as it adds huge value for their readers and gives us a vehicle to promote our book offer and our value position to a huge audience.”

Funny isnīt it. A while ago all the media was forecasting the demise of the book in favour of e-books. Seems like there is a come back and about time the wholesalers gave the indi the same deal instead of trying to screw us with the proposed returns policy.27 May 08 10:22
