Denton still committed to ArgentVive

Charles Denton, deputy chairman and majority shareholder of ArgentVive, has expressed his commitment to the company despite the board rejecting his offer to take it private.

The board announced this week that it was “considering various options and alternatives for the group”, which also owns recently launched BookRabbit.com, in light of “challenging trading conditions”. The company was formerly known as Samedaybooks and also runs information provider Solcara and wholesaler Waterside Books.

Denton said that the retail market was “tough” but he said he would “remain majority shareholder of ArgentVive”. Denton owns 41% of the company.

“It’s a difficult market at the moment and being an AIM listed company means is quite restrictive and we need to be flexible,” he said. “It’s difficult to raise money and we need it, so we need to think where best to use our resources going forward.”
