Author Glass stands against David Davis
17.06.08 Anna Richardson
Political writer and author Neil Glass (a.k.a. David Craig) is standing against Tory MP David Davis in the Haltemprice and Howden by-election, citing the work on his recent book, Squandered, as one of the reasons for running.
Squandered, which was published by Constable earlier this year, explores "how Gordon Brown has wasted over one trillion pounds of taxpayers' money", and Glass believes that MPs have lost touch with the lives of ordinary voters.
He said: “It was whilst writing Squandered that I became so incensed by the amount of money being wasted by our profligate, greedy political leaders. Instead of seeing an MP's job as 'public service', our MPs think it is 'self-service', instead of 'helping their voters' they just 'help themselves', instead of spending our money wisely they just waste it on worthless schemes to promote their own 'legacy'."
Glass's other books include Who Cares? (Original Book Company) and Plundering the Public Sector (Constable).

I recently finished reading David Craig's "Squandered" and was most impressed by it. I hope it will be more widely read. The appalling waste, the fraud and hypocrisy, the cruel, casual unconcern for the have-nots in every sphere is horrifying and shameful. We need urgently to halt the abuse of power and the insidious change from democracy to bureaucracy as the mode of government in the UK and the EU. My personal bête noire is the NHS and the abuse of power by the system and by many health professionals. In the light of the current financial scandals that are precipitating us to Hell in a handcart I expect David Craig is busy writing another book!21 Oct 08 22:25
