'Springwatch' King to Hodder
19.06.08 Anna Richardson
Hodder & Stoughton has acquired a memoir by Simon King, the popular co-presenter of "Springwatch", whose new series of "Big Cat Diary" this autumn will be the first to be broadcast live.
Hodder publisher Rupert Lancaster bought British and Commonwealth (including Canada) rights from Marcella Edwards at PFD in the book, which is provisionally titled I Want to Be an Elephant When I Grow Up and is set to be published for Christmas 2009.
Lancaster said: "When I went to a lecture Simon King gave in April and saw how much the audience responded to his charisma and fantastic storytelling, I was sure he would write a great memoir."
King is best known as co-presenter of BBC2's "Springwatch" and "Autumnwatch" series, which regularly attract audiences of more than four million viewers.
He has spent more than 30 years as a wildlife cameraman and pre senter, and has received numerous prizes, including an Emmy, a Bafta and Royal Television Society awards. King said: "I've had the great good fortune to travel to every continent and lived in extreme conditions, from remote desert to Arctic and Antarctic wilderness. These stories will be the fabric of my memoirs, woven amongst encounters with extraordinary people and astonishing places."
The "Springwatch" and "Autumn watch" tie-in book, which is co-authored by King, is published by Collins.
