Editis ups offer to discontented staff

French publisher Editis has increased the staff bonus following the company's sale to Spain's Planeta to €1,500 from €1,000 in the agreement signed with four of the five trade union groups.

The agreement, which was released at 2pm on Thursday after approval by the Editis supervisory board, said the extra €500 would be paid at the end of August to top up the €1,000 paid at the end of June.



The unions demanded a share of the capital gain from the company following French newspaper reports that senior managers had received generous payouts for their role in earning former owner, Wendel, a handsome capital gain four years after acquiring the group.



The fifth union group, the Confédération Générale du Travail (CGT), did not sign the agreement because the management insisted on a blackout until the deal was approved by the board."

There is still a lot of staff discontent, and not just among our members," a union official said. "We have received a number of complaints about the lack of consultations" since the staff communiqué was released, he added Thursday evening.
