Strike ends in Paris
08.07.08 John Ryan
W H Smith has settled a dispute over bonuses and working conditions with the staff of its Paris branch.
The two-floor shop on the central Rue de Rivoli was only half-open for most of last week and was forced to close at the weekend, one of the peak trading periods for French retailers prior to Les Grandes Vacances, as staff downed tools.
Negotiations between the retailer and staff concluded with agreement late yesterday and the branch resumed trading this morning. The Paris store, billed as the “English books shop”, is the sole branch of W H Smith in France.
