Mileham leaves Borders
21.07.08 Graeme Neill
Borders books category manager Caroline Mileham has left the retailer to go to a competitor. She resigned from the company on Wednesday (16th July).
Mileham joined Borders in 2006 from Waterstone’s, where she was a member of Scott Pack’s head office product department.
Borders’ c.e.o. Philip Downer said that he would “like to thank Caroline for her contribution to Borders UK over the past couple of years”. “The team of buyers that she leaves behind her have strength, depth and a passion for books, and are a credit to Caroline’s leadership,” he said.
A spokesperson for the retailer refused to reveal Mileham’s immediate plans but said that she had been hired by a “direct competitor”.
Borders is currently restructuring its head office buying team with several positions being made redundant and Borders’ 12 buyers being asked to reapply for their jobs. The four-week consultation process will finish on Monday.

...being asked to reapply for their own jobs! What a wonderful gesture by Borders. Someone tried to lay that on me once...I took a few things from my drawer, put my jacket on, got in the lift and went out the revolving door...in about as much time as it took to key in this...and I never returned...they wrote to me about a week later...I didn't reply....bring on the revolution....mucho peace from Essex...18 Jul 08 16:16

'Is Borders in meltdown?' Answer. No, not any more...it melted away around last November from what I heard. It reminds me a little of my local football club ( Colchester United ) that changed hands for a £1 in 1990. I saw it happen, in fact the pound coin dropped to the ground and I picked it up and handed it to the chairman ( Jonathan Crisp )...well, after I handed it to him he ceased to be the chairman. We could learn much from the animal kingdom..they see things coming...strange how the humans are so slow to catch on to anything until it has passed them by in some air conditioned corridor with it's glass offices where the inmates are numb...much peace from The Republic of Essex...20 Jul 08 21:22
