Creative writing courses from Faber

Faber has confirmed that it is planning to roll out a series of creative writing courses, to take place in various cities around Europe and the UK.

The first, which has already started taking bookings, will be based in Paris, with novelists Tobias Hill and Jeanette Winterson leading 15 aspiring writers on a four-day intensive tutorial at Left Bank bookshop Shakespeare and Co. The £500 price tag includes a daily lunch, optional evening activities arranged by Sylvia Whitman, a Moleskine Paris City Notebook, discounts on Faber books and an advance copy of Hill's newest novel, The Hidden.

Plans are already in place for a London version, which is expected to take place in Ian McEwan's stomping ground Fitzroy Square. Jason Cooper, Faber director of rights and new business development, said his team was also considering Berlin as a destination for a film course, and other locations, such as Edinburgh, Dublin and Birmingham, for writing courses.

He added: "The idea is to develop specifically things that sit outside the publishing programme, but are connected by brand and by Faber—the people involved and the network and goodwill."
