Sutton’s print firm goes under

Gloucestershire-based printing firm Asterim has gone into liquidation just six months after it was founded by publisher Alan Sutton from the collapsed Oaklands Book Services.

A creditors' meeting was held on 6th August, at which Anthony Harris of Critchley's Chartered Accountants was named liquidator. Harris said: "The company has stopped trading and I am trying to collect assets and pay the creditors." He added that the process could take "a few months".

In February, Oaklands administrator Tenon confirmed that Asterim had bought the assets of the printer formerly owned by NPI Media, and its contracts, including that of its largest customer, The History Press. THP has recently started using Jellyfish Solutions to source its printing.

In a statement to The Bookseller, Sutton said a lack of printing work had led to Asterim’s demise. "We have reluctantly decided that we have to close the operation and to thank a great team of guys who have been severely let down,’ he said. The printer was understood to have had about 25 employees.

Sutton said Asterim’s liquidation would have no impact on his new venture, Amberley Publishing. He said that he had recently recruited Peter Kennis Betty from his role as consultant editor for archaeology and ancient history at THP, adding that he was "delighted to have him join the team".
