SW11 literary festival back on

Will Self, Victoria Hislop and Ruth Rendell are among the line up for the 2008 SW11 Literary Festival. The event held by Waterstone¹s at Clapham Common and Wandsworth Council will run from 8th to 28th September.

The festival was not held last year due to local flooding. "We're delighted to be back," said Waterstone's manager Angus MacLennan. "As far as I am aware the SW11 Literary Festival is unique in its public/private partnership, impressive in its breadth and the calibre of its authors and proud of its conviction to serve and celebrate the passion of the local community towards the written word."

There will be a variety of events taking place across the borough, with author signings, readings, workshops, open poetry readings and a literary pub quiz.

Headline act Will Self is positive about the small, but local event. "In general I think it¹s a great thing for a writer to be able to introduce his work to an audience, but when that audience is a local one people you share the same manor with the sensation of relevance: the gearing of literature into life is enormously heightened."

Writers at the festival also include William Sutcliffe, James Delingpole and Tibor Fischer, along with BBC journalist David Loyn, psychologist Dorothy Rowe and food writer Mark Hix.
