Pullman reveals Waterstone's pick
01.09.08 Philip Jones
A Perfect Spy by John le Carre, The Finn Family Moomintroll by Tove Jansson and The Ancestor's Tale by Richard Dawkins are among the 40 books selected by children's writer Philip Pullman for his Waterstone's table. Pullman follows Sebastian Faulks in selecting his favourite books for the high street and internet bookseller.
Pullman has also written about why he chose each book in his selection, and links to his hand-written thoughts will be live on Waterstones.com from 4th September. Writing in the Times on Saturday, he stated: "One interesting thing was the growing realisation that my list was less about literature than about story, or about something else that wasn't fine writing, but was more important."
Toby Bourne, head of fiction at Waterstone's, said: "Our first Writer's Table was a great success, and really captured the imaginations of our booksellers and customers. We are extremely excited that Philip has agreed to choose the titles for our second Writer's Table. We are absolutely delighted with this eclectic and thought-provoking selection of books from one of the nation's greatest and most popular writers."
