Halliwell is top celeb children's author
Geri Halliwell has been outed as "the most successful female celebrity children's author of 2008". In a statement issued by her publicist, it was claimed that in just five months Geri Halliwell has sold more than 250,000 copies of her Ugenia Lavender series, making her 2008's most successful female celebrity children’s author by that measure.
A six book series for children aged 7-11 years, Ugenia Lavender, is about the adventures of a feisty, red-haired nine-year-old girl, and has proved to have universal appeal.
Rachel Airey, head buyer at W H Smith, said: "Ugenia Lavender has been the most successful launch of a celebrity author this year and in recent years. Every book has sold on launch and then continues to sell. Continued strong sales prove that customers are buying this series because it’s well written and both the kids and their parents love it. The amount of time Geri has given to the promotion of these books shows her dedication and commitment to the series. It gives me faith in the paperbacks for 2009, and I’d love to see more new titles after that."
Halliwell added: "I’m so happy that everyone loves Ugenia as much as I do."
