Ghost story from Sarah Waters
Virago will publish a new novel from author Sarah Waters next summer. The Little Stranger is set in the 1940s, as was her last novel, the Booker-shortlisted The Night Watch, and is described as "a chilling ghost story".
The publisher said the book was set in rural Warwickshire where a crumbling country manor house is "haunted by a dying way of life - and perhaps by something more sinister". Virago's Lennie Goodings bought UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) and will publish in June 2009.
